A Study on the Effectiveness of the Integrated Case Management Programfocused on Rapport in the Jjok-Bang (Small Single Room) Homeless having Alcohol Use Disorder at Precontemplation Stages

Abstract
Objective : This study aimed to find the effectiveness of the integrated case management program, focused on sharing a rapport at precontemplation stage, in the Jjok-bang (small single room) homeless suffering from alcohol use disorder.

Methods : A total of 19 subjects at the Jjok-bang (small single room) homeless, having alcohol use disorder at the precontemplation stage, were included if the study. Case management, group therapy, and network services focused on the rapport provided to them for 18 months (8 months for phase I, 10 months for phase II).

Results : During phase I, 7 of the 19 homeless dropped out of the study, and the remaining 12 subjects maintained abstinence or reduced drinking at the end of phase I. In phase II, 8 subjects who desired admission enrolled in the study, and 7 (87.5%) of them reduced drinking, or kept abstinence at the end of phase II. Overall, of the subjects who participated in phase I, 42.1% completed phase II ; 7 subjects (36.8%) reduced daily drinking or maintained abstinence.

Conclusion : These findings suggested that a program which emphasize on sharing a good rapport between the therapist and subject is effective for the homeless who suffer from alcohol use disorder at the precontemplation stage.
